I’m worried because I am unemployed and was wondering if anyone knows whether, if there is a recession for 2008, would it make it more difficult to finding a steady, permanent?

Yes, recession means more unemployment, which means more people competing for a smaller number of jobs.
It would be a good time to look at public sector jobs to have some steady income until the recession ends.

Spend less time reading yahoo home page or other news sources and more time applying for jobs. You will get one! Won’t find a job reading the news.

The country is not in a recession. Not, as of yet anyhow. I think we have a 50% chance of getting into one by the first quarter of next year. However, this is in reference to the country. The local economy you reside in might be doing great, or could already in a recession. Detroit for example has been stagnant for quite some time.
And yes a recession typically makes entering the job market more difficult.

As with all things, “it depends”.
Yes: as a general statement, if there is a recession, it will be more difficult to get a job. There are fewer jobs opportunities relative to the number of people seeking them.
Maybe not: even in a recession, there may be occupations that are difficult to fill because there are few people who qualify for those specific positions.
Here is a specific example:
Right now, there are many people who were employed in the home finance business who are unemployed. The bottom line is that a lot of mortgage companies went out of business.
These people can’t find work in the financial service industry, and they have to look for opportunities in some other industry.
At the same time, in my area, there is an extreme shortage of nurses. We have to recruit from outside the state, and experienced nurses can command a premium.
To summarize, recessions typically hurt those with lower education, or skill sets that care not transferable to another work environment.
I do not know what your skill sets are, but I wish you well in your job search.
