What Is Your State Doing To Fight The Recession?

Here in NC, they are laying off 10’s of thousands of state employees (many teachers), cutting individual school budgets by 10’s of millions, raising taxes on everything to the tune of $1 billion MORE for the next year (a 1 cent sales tax increase, fuel tax increase, cigarettes and alcohol, and income tax increases).
Can Obama explain how these are helping to end the recession?

Well unemployment is 15% right now and expected to double by the end of the year!
They are closing 20 post offices in the city and in another city in the state they are closing 25.

Those measures are not meant to “fight the recession” but merely to balance budgets resulting from ever-shrinking revenue, itself a result from rising unemployment. With increasing demand for public services resulting from loss of jobs and loss of insurance coverage, states have to find some way to plug the holes. (The irony is that by slashing budgets, states may end up losing federal matching funds for a variety of programs.)
However, unlike the federal government, states do not have the luxury of borrowing from foreign creditors and using complex accounting gimmicks to pass costs onto future budgets.
Texas has been relatively insulated from the full brunt of this current economic rut: housing bust (West coast, Florida), crash of financial services (New York), and decreased domestic manufacturing (Midwest). Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean all is fine and dandy in the Lone Star state. (Of course, when a significant portion of the population is already used to a standard of living equivolent to that of some Latin American countries, then things just don’t LOOK as bad as they truly are.)

Here in MI we are going to finally boot out our governor due to term limits. That is a good start. They finally figured out how to end our one state recession by electing Obama to start a national recession. I think we have to be in a depression by now, but no one will say that.

I live in Western NC and I am aghast at what this State is doing. We are following CA right down the hole.
The crooks in our State Legislature need to be voted out ASAP.
This is what happens when a perfectly good Red State turns Blue.

Wow, sorry to hear that NC is getting hit so hard. Many of my relatives live in the Gastonia/Mt. Holly area. Obama needs all that money to gear up for his “brilliant” healthcare plans.
Aren’t you glad that people much wiser than us voted him in??? He’s soooo cool.

the best way for each State to fight back is by excising their individual rights under the 10th amendment and tossing off the yoke of a tyrannical over bearing out of control Federal Monster.
